Mardi Himal Short Trek Itinerary in 2026: 4 Days to Base Camp

Are you dreaming of standing face-to-face with the Himalayas but only have a few days to spare? Many travelers believe that to see the giants like Annapurna and Machhapuchhre (Fishtail), you need weeks of grueling trekking. At Best Heritage Tour, we are here to tell you that isn't the case.

The Mardi Himal Short Trek is the "hidden gem" of the Annapurna region. It offers the same dramatic ridgeline views as longer expeditions but fits perfectly into a 4-day window. Whether you are a time-constrained traveler or a beginner looking for your first Himalayan experience, this trail provides an intimate look at Nepal’s beauty without the crowds of the classic circuits.

Why Choose the Mardi Himal Short Trek?

Before we dive into the day-by-day plan, let’s look at why this specific route is currently the most trending trek in Nepal:

  • Proximity to Pokhara: You start trekking within an hour of leaving the lakeside.

  • The "Cloud Walk": The trail follows a high ridge, meaning you often walk above the clouds with 360-degree views.

  • Eco-Diversity: In just four days, you transition from subtropical jungles and rhododendron forests to rugged, high-altitude alpine zones.

  • Close-up with Fishtail: This is arguably the best spot in the world to see the iconic, sacred Mt. Machhapuchhre (6,993m) up close.

The Perfect 4-Day Itinerary (Optimized for 2026)

At Best Heritage Tour, we have refined this itinerary to ensure proper acclimatization while making the most of every hour.

Day 1: Drive from Pokhara to Dhampus (1,650m) & Trek to Forest Camp (2,520m)

Drive Time: 1 Hour | Trek Duration: 5-6 Hours

Your journey begins with a scenic drive from Pokhara to the traditional Gurung village of Dhampus. As soon as you step out of the vehicle, you are greeted by a panoramic sweep of the Annapurna range.

The trail starts with a steady climb through terraced fields before entering a lush forest of oak, maple, and rhododendron. This section is a paradise for birdwatchers - keep an eye out for the colorful Himalayan Monal. By the time you reach Forest Camp (locally known as Kokar), the air is crisp, and the silence of the woods provides a tranquil setting for your first night in the mountains.

Day 2: Trek from Forest Camp (2,520m) to High Camp (3,580m)

Trek Duration: 6-7 Hours

Today is a day of transformation. As you ascend, the "cloud forest" begins to change. The trees become shorter, covered in moss and lichen, creating a mystical atmosphere.

You will pass through Low Camp and Badal Danda (Cloud Hill). Badal Danda is a famous viewpoint where you can see the Machhapuchhre and Annapurna South looming directly ahead. Beyond this point, you leave the tree line and enter the alpine zone. The trail follows a narrow, grassy ridge that leads you to High Camp. From your teahouse tonight, the sunset over the Himalayas will be a memory you’ll carry for a lifetime.

Day 3: High Camp (3,580m) to Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m) & Descend to Low Camp (2,520m)

Trek Duration: 7-8 Hours

This is the big day. We start early - usually around 4:00 AM - to catch the sunrise from the Upper Viewpoint or the Base Camp.

The climb is steep and follows a rugged ridge, but the reward is incomparable. Standing at Mardi Himal Base Camp (4,500m), you are right at the foot of Mardi Himal and the towering Machhapuchhre. The Great Barrier of the Annapurnas feels close enough to touch. After soaking in the 360-degree vistas, we begin our descent. The return leg feels much easier as we drop back down to the lush surroundings of Low Camp for a well-deserved rest.

Day 4: Trek from Low Camp (2,520m) to Siding (1,750m) & Drive Back to Pokhara

Trek Duration: 4-5 Hours | Drive Time: 2 Hours

On our final day, we take a different route down to ensure you see more of the region's diversity. The trail to Siding Village is a steep descent through beautiful woodlands and traditional farmlands. Siding is a wonderful place to observe the local lifestyle and enjoy a final mountain meal.

From Siding, a private jeep will be waiting to take you on a bumpy but scenic drive back to the comforts of Pokhara, where a hot shower and a celebratory dinner await!

Essential Tips for the Mardi Himal Trek

As your professional guides, we recommend keeping these three points in mind:

  1. Hydration is Key: Even though the trek is short, you are reaching 4,500m. Drink at least 3-4 liters of water daily to prevent altitude sickness.

  2. Pack Layers: The temperature at Forest Camp can be mild, but High Camp can drop below freezing even in the trekking season.

  3. The "Slow and Steady" Rule: Locally known as Bistarai, Bistarai. Walking slowly is the best way to enjoy the scenery and stay healthy.
